Rainbow Awards — 3 Runner Up Nods This Year @emlynley @dreamspinners #gayromance

Rainbow Runner UPI wasn’t actually going to enter any books in the Rainbow Awards this year, but I decided to give it a go, because the entry fees were going to charity. All I really had to lose was another layer off my already-battered ego. I learned years ago that sometimes it’s safer to not ask for other people’s opinions.

As it happens, I think two of my recent releases are some of the best writing I’ve ever done. (Yes, practice does help, though when it comes to writing, it certainly doesn’t make perfect.) And I also had my biggest selling book ever this year, and a few people twisted various parts of my anatomy, so I caved and entered.

Color me gobsmacked to learn that I had three books with Honorable Mentions for their category, three finalists and all three were Runners Up. I’m just thrilled to death that the judges also seemed to think these books are among my best.

Now there’s a prize for you too, because Dreamspinner Press has put all the Rainbow Award winners and runners up on sale at 30% off. You can find buy links below.

Here are the books they loved:

2 Runners Up for Best Gay Mystery/Thriller

24KConspiracy-200x30024-Karat Conspiracy

Judge’s comments: “Enjoyed this story, and couldn’t put it down. I’d read book 1 a couple of years ago for Rainbow Awards so was great to catch up with Reed and Trent again, and see how far they’d come both in their relationship and as individuals. Easy writing style that sucked me into the storyline very quickly. Loved the descriptions of the settings – made it seem very real, and easy to imagine.”

Judge’s comments: “Wonderful novel and excellent perspective on the military life. Probably the best, most realistic description of military life and social gatherings I have read in a very long time. Would have received near perfect scores if it had been placed in Romantic Suspense, because the romance and relationship aspects drove this book forward; the mystery felt sidelined.

And Runner Up in the Best Gay Erotic Romance–

No surprise, since it’s the steamiest, most over-the-top downright sexy thing I’ve ever written!

Dirty Dining

Judge’s comments: Excellent sex and deft character development. [I think he or she was a little overwhelmed. :)]

Jeremy Linden’s a PhD student researching an HIV vaccine. He’s always short of money, and when biotech startup PharmaTek reduces funding for his fellowship, he’s tempted to take a job at a men’s dining club as a serving boy. The uniforms are skimpy, and he’s expected to remove an item of clothing after each course. He can handle that, but he soon discovers there’s more on the menu here than fine cuisine. How far will he go to pay his tuition, and will money get in the way when he realizes he’s interested in more from one of his gentlemen?

Brice Martin is an attorney for a Silicon Valley venture capital firm. When he’s asked to take a client to the infamous Dinner Club, he finds himself unexpectedly turned on by the atmosphere and especially by his server, Remy. He senses there’s more to the sexy young man than meets the eye. The paradox fascinates him, and he can’t get enough of Remy.

Their relationship quickly extends beyond the club and sex. But the trust and affection they’ve worked to achieve may crumble when Jeremy discovers Brice’s VC firm is the one that pulled the plug on PharmaTek—and Jeremy’s research grant.

Jaded & Out of the Gate are Rainbow Awards Finalists! #lgbt @dreamspinners #amreading

FinalistMDWhen I saw the full list of books entered in the Rainbow Awards this year I stopped breathing for a moment. There was a lot of competition in the categories where I had entered  books. So, you can imagine my shock and delight when I got emails from Elisa Rolle telling me that I had two books in the finals. I was especially thrilled because I didn’t enter any books last year because I didn’t have money to cover the entrance fees.

Both books also received Honorable Mention for receiving at least 36/40 points from at least one of the judges!

Jaded_medJADED made it to the finals in the Rainbow Awards for Best Gay Mystery. This book is very special to me. It’s set in Japan, where I lived for 5 years in my other life as a financial markets economist. I’ve wanted to set a book here for a long time, and everything came together for this book, part of my Precious Gems Series. I’m very proud of how JADED turned out and think it’s one of my best books yet. An extra special doomo arigatoo gozaimasu to Thea Nishimori who was my Japan beta to make sure everything was accurate and up-to-date. The beautiful Anne Cain is in the 3rd round of the Cover Contest, so it could use your vote.
Thanks to Dreamspinner Press big sale, JADED is 25% off until 10/10, so it’s a good time to grab a copy! (http://bit.ly/dsp-eml)

Out of the Gate 400x600OUT OF THE GATE is another book that’s very close to my heart.

I had been dreaming about writing this particular story for a long time. I’m an unrepentant horse lover since childhood and I was dying to write about horse racing. I got to hang out for a month with a local trainer at Golden Gate Fields for research, asking a million questions. Out of the Gate is about a British actor in Hollywood who falls for a racehorse trainer when he and his friends buy a racehorse. I was so surprised how popular this book became. It was a story I wanted to write for several years, but I had no idea how much readers would enjoy it. It’s my biggest selling novel since my debut novel in 2009. It’s blown me away.

It’s on sale 25% rebate at All Romance eBooks during October, so it’s the perfect time to get your copy! (http://bit.ly/are-gate2)

LRC Cafe Best of 2013: 2 nominations this year!

Normally I don’t ask for votes, because I never get nominated for anything, but I finally got nominated for something! Two nominations for the LRC Cafe Best of 2013 Awards. I didn’t even read the posts when they came out, because I had no idea any of my titles might be listed. I’m not actually asking now, just putting it out there. If you care to vote, I would be very grateful for your support. Voting runs from Jan 20 to Jan 24 (Eastern time US). Links to the polls are below. You will need to be a member of the LRC Yahoo Group to cast a vote. PreciousGems_FBbanner_DSP600wide I was surprised and thrilled when a reader told me that my Precious Gems series with Dreamspinner Press was nominated for Best Series of 2013. If you’ve read and enjoyed it, I would appreciate your vote. If you haven’t read any of the books, it’s best described as Indiana Jones meets Romancing the Stone–only gayer. It’s a fun adventure/mystery/romantic suspense series. The poll is on the LRC Yahoo Group:

Here’s the blurb: Two weeks in a remote mountain cabin with his hunk of a jock college roommate Monty Jameson has Zack Gregory hot under the collar in all the wrong ways. Truth is, Zack would rather be almost anywhere else, but it’s his only option if he’s to finish a project he needs to graduate from the University of Washington. Even worse, the nearest town is a faux-Bavarian village that looks like someone poured a snowglobe out on the eastern Cascades.

Late-night fantasies aside, Zack’s no fan of manslut Monty, preferring his men with virtues that are more than skin-deep. A few days into their retreat, Monty’s raw sexuality and flirtatiousness has Zack questioning his resolve. The idyllic setting is Zack’s Christmas fantasy come true, and even the splashy village eventually works its charm on him. Then when the cabin’s power goes out and Monty lays himself bare–in every way imaginable and then some–Zack sees a whole new set of possibilities. But will falling for Monty make the best Christmas ever, or is Zack just getting snowed?
